We specify water efficient tapware and plumbing fittings, and all rainwater collected on the roof can be captured into water tanks for use back into the house.
On rural properties we use waste treatment plants that effectively take all household waste water and treat it to a standard that can be safely used to irrigate orchards and planted landscapes throughout the year in the absence of rainfall.
Solar hot water service
Long before it was mandatory for all new houses to have a 5-star energy rating and a solar hot water service or water tank, a SHWS would be a standard inclusion for our buildings. The technology has come a long way in terms of efficiency and technical proficiency, and along with government rebates*, installing a SHWS now makes even more economical sense.
There are various forms of units such as close coupled systems with the tank on the roof together with the collector, split systems where the tank is located on the ground, and evacuated tube systems which are more forgiving in the orientation they are mounted in.
